TotalEnergies Solar Project Energizes A’Saffa Foods Poultry Farm in Oman

TotalEnergies has successfully commissioned a 7 MWp solar PV project designed to meet the clean energy needs of A’Saffa Foods’ poultry farm in Thamrait, Dhofar Governorate.

This development highlights TotalEnergies’ commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions in Oman.

The newly established solar PV facility, boasting a capacity of 7 MWp, represents TotalEnergies’ third small-scale solar initiative for major corporate clients in Oman.

This project is part of the company’s innovative ‘No-CAPEX solution’ model.

Under this approach, TotalEnergies covers the initial costs of investment, installation, operation, and maintenance of the solar system, recuperating these expenses through a long-term financial arrangement with the client.

The project, which follows an agreement signed in November 2022 by TotalEnergies Renewables Orient LLC, involves constructing the solar array on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis.

The facility is equipped with 12,824 photovoltaic (PV) panels, capable of generating 16,569 megawatt hours (MWh) of renewable energy annually.

This output meets approximately 36% of the poultry farm’s yearly energy needs and results in a reduction of around 6,250 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

Eng Mohamed Suhail al Shanfari, CEO of A’Saffa Foods, praised the project, stating: “Partnering with TotalEnergies has enabled us to power much of our operations with clean and renewable energy.

This milestone is a crucial step toward meeting our environmental objectives and underscores our commitment to reducing carbon emissions.”

Hamady S Y, Managing Director of TotalEnergies Renewables Distributed Generation Middle East & Africa, commented: “Addressing rising energy demands while minimizing greenhouse gas emissions is central to our mission. We are proud to support clean solar initiatives and are thrilled to collaborate with A’Saffa Foods in enhancing solar energy development in Oman.”

In a similar vein, TotalEnergies has partnered with the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) to develop a 4.6 MWp solar rooftop project, designed to fulfill the OCEC’s annual electricity requirements.

Additionally, last November saw the inauguration of a 17-MWp solar PV project by Sharqiyah Desalination Company.

This installation, one of the largest solar schemes supporting water desalination in the Middle East, addresses around one-third of the desalination plant’s energy needs.

Sandeep Yadav, Technical Development and Project Management at TotalEnergies Muscat, reflected on the project: “Leading this initiative for A’Saffa Foods has been an exceptional experience. Our cutting-edge technology and dedicated team made this success possible. We are grateful to our partners and stakeholders for their support. This project is a significant stride toward a sustainable future aligned with Oman Vision 2040, with TotalEnergies Renewable Solutions spearheading the CAPEX-free approach in Oman.”
