Vestas has solidified its partnership with TagEnergy, securing the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for the second phase of the Golden Plains Wind Farm in Australia.
This stage will incorporate 93 of Vestas’ V162-6.2 MW wind turbines from the EnVentus platform.
Expanding Vestas’ Largest Onshore Wind Farm
Vestas is currently fulfilling a 756 MW EPC contract for the first stage of the wind farm. The addition of the second stage, contributing an extra 577 MW, will elevate the total capacity to 1.3 GW, establishing Golden Plains as Vestas’ most substantial onshore wind farm to date.
Following the completion of both stages, Vestas will provide a comprehensive 30-year service and maintenance agreement (AOM5000), ensuring optimal energy production and integration into the Australian power grid.
Commitment to Australia’s Sustainable Future
Purvin Patel, President of Vestas Asia Pacific, expressed delight in constructing and servicing this landmark project, leveraging Vestas’ world-class personnel, wind turbines, and expertise.
As the global leader in wind energy, Vestas remains dedicated to Australia’s sustainable energy goals and acknowledges TagEnergy and its subcontractor partners for their collaborative efforts.
Financial Close and Project Timeline
Andrew Riggs, Managing Director of TagEnergy, commended Vestas’ diligence and expertise in achieving financial close for the second stage, drawing upon best practices honed during the adjacent 756 MW Golden Plains Wind Farm Stage 1.
The delivery of Vestas’ wind turbines for the second stage is anticipated to commence in the first quarter of 2025, with commissioning scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2026.
