Vestas Wins 99 MW Akmene II Wind Energy Project in Lithuania

Vestas has been awarded a 99 MW contract by Aquila Clean Energy for the delivery of a complete engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) solution for the Akmene II wind energy project in Lithuania.

Beyond supplying and installing the wind turbines, Vestas will oversee the project’s civil and electrical engineering aspects.

The project encompasses 16 V162-6.2 MW wind turbines and includes a 35-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement, designed to optimize annual energy production.

Akmene II represents an expansion of the existing Akmene I project, a 74 MW EPC venture featuring 12 V162-6.2 MW turbines, which were successfully commissioned in 2023.

“We are delighted to announce another collaborative venture in Lithuania with our long-standing and valued client, Aquila Clean Energy,” stated Jens Pinderup, Vice President Sales East of Vestas Northern & Central Europe.

“We eagerly anticipate taking on this expanded scope to provide our customer with a dependable and high-performing installation in the Baltic region.”

Pinderup emphasized the project’s contribution to Lithuania’s energy goals, stating, “The project marks a significant milestone for Lithuania’s energy independence by integrating additional renewable electricity into the region.

It underscores how our technological solutions are integral to the country’s sustainable energy ambitions. We are proud to further strengthen our leading position in the Baltic region with this endeavor.”

Construction on the Akmene II wind project is slated to commence by the end of 2024, with turbine delivery and commissioning anticipated for the first quarter of 2026.

This expansion of Lithuania’s renewable energy infrastructure reaffirms Vestas’ dedication to supporting the transition to sustainable energy sources in the region and globally.
