VSB Finland Initiates Implementation of 450 MW Hybrid Project

VSB Finland’s Puutionsaari project in the North Ostrobothnia region has obtained a legally binding local master plan, paving the way for its implementation.

This milestone signifies a major step forward for VSB, as the project will be the company’s largest renewable energy undertaking to date, and one of the most significant hybrid park projects in Europe.

The hybrid project will consist of a 350 MW wind farm with 49 turbines, which has already received planning permission.

Additionally, a 100 MWp solar farm is planned, with full approval expected by autumn 2024. Upon completion, this substantial hybrid park will generate enough clean electricity to power approximately 337,500 households.

Construction of the wind farm is set to begin in 2025, with commissioning scheduled for 2028.

Hybrid parks represent a promising future for the energy mix, offering numerous advantages. By combining wind and solar power, they ensure a stable and reliable energy supply throughout the year.

Their efficient design allows for seamless integration into the national grid without the need for additional transmission lines.

Dr. Felix Grolman, CEO of VSB Group, emphasized the importance of hybrid projects in achieving a comprehensive energy transition.

He expressed pride in VSB’s 100% success rate in Finland and eagerly anticipates the completion of this exceptional project, representing a significant investment of over €500 million.

Seppo Tallgren, Managing Director of VSB Finland, highlighted the potential for hybrid parks to enable other innovative technologies, such as green hydrogen production, through consistent power generation.

He expressed his pride in the project team and their commitment to realizing this remarkable project, which will contribute significantly to Europe’s energy transition.
