VSB Group, a prominent European developer, manager, and operator of wind and solar energy projects, is finalizing preparations for its first photovoltaic (PV) project in Italy.
This marks a significant expansion of the company’s renewable energy portfolio across Europe.
Ramacca: VSB’s First PV Project in Italy
The Ramacca ground-mounted photovoltaic plant, with a planned capacity of 60 MWp, will be constructed in the Catania metropolitan area on the island of Sicily.
This project represents VSB’s inaugural foray into the Italian solar market.
The project is set to take shape in the coming months on a 100-hectare site in Ramacca, a town southwest of Catania. Commissioning is anticipated in 2025.
Upon completion, the solar park is projected to generate approximately 117,000 MWh of electricity annually, sufficient to power around 40,000 average multi-person households.
Showcasing VSB’s Expertise in Large-Scale PV Development
Giuseppe de Benedictis, Managing Director of VSB Italy, emphasized the significance of this project, stating, “The VSB Italy team currently has a total of 1.8 GW of wind power and photovoltaic projects under development.
Ramacca is a testament to our expertise in large-scale PV project development.”
Supporting Italy’s Ambitious Renewable Energy Targets
Dr. Felix Grolman, CEO of VSB Group, highlighted Italy’s commitment to renewable energy, noting, “Italy has set itself the target of connecting a substantial 50 GW of PV capacity to the grid by 2030. We are delighted to contribute our expertise to this endeavor.”
Grolman further emphasized that energy independence, security of supply, and stable electricity prices are crucial for all of Europe, and the rapid expansion of renewable energy is making these goals achievable.
