A new partnership to expand hydrogen production systems in Europe

Metacon and Siemens have teamed up to expedite the production of green hydrogen in Sweden.

Metacon AB (publ), a leading developer and manufacturer of energy systems for green hydrogen production, has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Siemens AG, a renowned tech company specializing in various sectors like industry, infrastructure, transport, and healthcare.

Siemens will serve as Metacon’s technology partner, bringing its expertise in power distribution, automation, instrumentation, electrification, drives, and building technology to the table.

Additionally, Siemens will provide a wide range of digital services and software for standardization, optimization, and simulation throughout the manufacturing and operational phases of the hydrogen production facilities.

Mikael Kraft, Head of Factory Automation and Sales at Siemens Digital Industries, emphasized the significance of hydrogen in achieving CO2 neutrality across industrial, energy, and transport sectors, noting that it is the focus of Siemens’ global investment in P2X.

Meanwhile, Metacon aims to establish itself as a market leader in hydrogen production in Europe by setting up large-scale production plants based on their partner PERIC’s cutting-edge technology for pressurized alkaline electrolysis stacks.

In early 2024, Metacon announced that it had secured exclusive rights for manufacturing complete electrolysis plants based on PERIC’s technology. Notably, PERIC’s alkaline technology features efficient 5-megawatt modules with over a decade of operational data.

Moreover, Metacon has access to PERIC’s recently launched 10-megawatt module, which is one of the largest of its kind globally.

Christer Wikner, CEO and President of Metacon, revealed the company’s ambitious plans to invest in manufacturing and selling large-scale electrolysis plants to sectors such as wind power, transportation, and basic industries in Europe.

With Siemens’ assistance, Metacon aims to accelerate and optimize crucial aspects of their unique Gigafactory project.
