Infinity Power, a leading provider of renewable energy in Africa, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the West Regional Council of Cameroon to develop up to 4 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy by 2035.
This ambitious project aims to address the growing energy demands in the country.
Diverse Technologies for a Sustainable Energy Mix
The initiative will encompass a variety of renewable energy technologies, including solar power, battery storage, wind power, hydropower, and biomass. This diversified approach ensures a more resilient and sustainable energy mix for Cameroon.
Cameroon’s Current Energy Landscape
Currently, most of Cameroon’s electricity comes from hydroelectric power plants, which account for 62% of the supply. In May, the country’s Energy Minister officially launched the injection of 60 megawatts (MW) from the Nachtigal hydroelectric plant into the grid. This infrastructure is expected to reach its full capacity of 420 MW by December.
Addressing Growing Energy Demands
The agreement with Infinity Power represents a significant step towards meeting Cameroon’s increasing energy needs. By harnessing diverse renewable sources, the country can reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and promote a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
